In the game of backgammon the roll of the dice determines the moves. Players roll two dice and have to move the total of these two dice although two stones can be moved on the total. When you roll a double you can move four times that number not just two times. The object of the game is to move your stones to the inner table and then off the board completely hopefully before your opponent does. Each color will move all around the table until all the stones are at home and then you can remove them from the table.

The set up of the stones will show black with two white stones on the first points. The person with white will have two black stones on his/her side. Both of these stones are called runners. On black's side after the two white stones you will see five black stones on the sixth point, three black stones on the eight point and five black stones on the twelfth point. Your side of the board will be exactly the same as the blacks but you will have two black stones where your two white ones are.
